Freon-22 vs.
Puron®
According to the Clean Air Act of
1990, Freon-22 and other refrigerants commonly known as HCFC's, will be phased out of use in the near future.
In 1996, a cap was placed on refrigerants that use HCFC's, and are known to be harmful to the ozone layer.
After 2010, the manufacturing of new air conditioners that use Freon-22 will be prohibited, and in 2020, production of Freon-22 will be banned. Carrier
has been designing and testing heating and cooling equipment that uses
Puron®, a refrigerant approved by the EPA to replace Freon-22. In fact, Carrier has been offering Puron®-based systems in homes like yours since 1996, developing a complete line of products using the world's first, long-term solution to ozone depletion.
View Puron Factoid. What does the term "SEER" stand for?
The term SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio and is the measure by which the cooling process of air conditioners and heat pumps is rated.
The higher the SEER number, the greater the efficiency, which translates into greater energy savings.
Today, U.S. regulatory agencies require all new models to have a 10.0 SEER rating or better.
Carriers full line of air conditioners offers SEER ratings of 10.0 to 17.1. Carrier's heat pumps offer ratings of 10.1 to 16.1.
